Fear and loathing redux

I hope that you are sitting down and don’t have access to any sharp objects to avoid self-inflicted mutilation, because nothing about this story is going to warm your heart.

About two weeks ago, Oklahoma City police stopped motorist Chip Harrison because of a sign on his vehicle.

The sign read: “Abort Obama Not the Unborn.”

The sign was taken by police but then later returned to Harrison after officers determined that he had a right to display the sign.

Annoying, but, ultimately, no big deal, right?

Well, the big deal occurred after the right-thinking police department realized that it is within Harrison’s right to display the sign.

According to Harrison, after police returned the sign he got a phone call.

Here is an excerpt from an Oklahoma news service of what transpired:

Harrison said he later received a call from a person who said he was a lieutenant supervisor for the Internal Investigations Department and wanted to know his location and return his sign to him.

According to Harrison, the supervisor said the Secret Service had been contacted on the matter and had told them the sign was not a threat to the president.

Harrison was asked if he would like to file a complaint. He said he was not sure but would take the paperwork, just in case.

But his run-in with the law wasn’t over yet.

”The Secret Service called and said they were at my house,” Harrison said.

After talking to his attorney, Harrison went home where he met the Secret Service.

”When I was on my way there, the Secret Service called me and said they weren’t going to ransack my house or anything … they just wanted to (walk through the house) and make sure I wasn’t a part of any hate groups.”

Harrison said he invited the Secret Service agents into the house and they were “very cordial.”

”We walked through the house and my wife and 2-year-old were in the house,” Harrison said.

He said they interviewed him for about 30 minutes and then left, not finding any evidence Harrison was a threat to the president.

”I’m still in contact with a lawyer right now,” Harrison said. “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Harrison said he feels his First Amendment rights were violated.

I’m not sure how you feel about this, but I am still trying to restrain myself from taking a pick to my basement floor to start digging my bunker.

How is this even remotely possible?

I talk about my dissatisfaction with the president nearly every day. Does this mean that the men in black are right around the corner to sift through my belongings? I never thought it would come to this but it might be time to empty the potato chip bags and turn them inside out to cover our electronics and wrap our heads in tin foil. Apparently our Commander-in-Chief can have sit-downs with the powers that be in Iran and Syria but can’t stomach the thought that somewhere in flyover country Joe Blow is pissed that his government is being hogtied and bullied into a socialist state through a contrived economic crisis so he sends his toadies in to have a look-see.

My goodness if President George W. Bush were still in office and something like this occurred the uproar would be tremendous with civil rights groups flocking to Harrison’s side. Enter Sharpton and Jackson. But, I also believe that the story would never have occurred during Bush’s tenure. The man knew that there were millions of Americans who had nothing but disdain for him and he accepted that fact, as a leader should. You can’t make everyone happy, but Obama cannot accept it. Every time he speaks, his belief that he has been anointed to his political position undercuts his attempts at false humility.

The story received very little national attention but it is something that we need to keep in our mental back pockets because it could mark an unsettling trend of things to come. The only way to fight the monster rising in the east is to speak out. I encourage you to tell at least two people about this incident and encourage them to pass it along to two others. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be happily barbequing in my backyard one day and see a black helicopter dropping Obama-ninjas onto my lawn because I told my neighbor that Obama is a big, bad meanie pants not realizing that my neighbor was part of the brainwashed legion who then, in turn, notified the Brown Shirts necessitating the free-speech assault by the ninjas.

No, I really don’t want that. In fact, as I type this, I think I can hear the rotors humming as they close in.

What were they planning on doing with that guy? Arresting him for having an OPINION??? Or just shaking him up, and forcing conformity down his throat??

    Better start building more jails!

    The Mesiah has spoken…

I read that article. The major concern was the word “Abort.” Many people are furious saying that Harrison meant that he wanted Obama to be killed, Harrison is pro-life and the bumper sticker or sign, whatever it was said something along the lines of ‘Abort Obama, not a Child’ – don’t quite remember the exact wording. Anyway, after reading the article I was stupid enough to read comments posted about the article and incident. Left-Wingers, Obama Supporters, Pro-Choicers, etc…stand by the fact that since Harrison feels abortion is wrong that he must feel that it is murder…therefore, in that case “ABORT” means to kill….

hmm…BUT if you are a Left-Winger, Pro-Choicer, don’t you interpret Abort to mean to get “rid” of…don’t most Pro-Choicers believe that Abortion is NOT MURDER?

You see where I am going with this? Pro-Choicers and Left Wingers want ABORT to mean MURDER when a Christian, Pro-Life, NON-Obama Supporter says it….But then don’t want labeled as MURDERERS when THEY support Abortion.

The whole story is just ridiculous. The fact that the Secret Service went to his house is BEYOND ridiculous.

So I watched the majority of the Obama Address to Congress, and I’m like, What is this, a clapping party? With Pelosi in the background, leading Biden as to, when to stand up to clap, I found it somewhat embarrassing. Hoorah! I get the feeling, judging by Biden’s bags under his eyes, we are cutting into his drinking time.

Until you actually walk the walk, then and only then, you can talk the talk.

Like MSN finally said, We don’t need a good speech, We need FACTS.

So far, I have not seen or heard, any.

Just rhetoric, from a blow hole. Did I say that?

ok…I see where you are all going with this. I must say your points are very valid to a point, then they fall into the category of “paranoia”. I won’t even go into asking where you stood post 9/11 and Bush and his crew wanted to listen i on every conversation in America. This blog today does seem very paranoid. I believe our First Amendment is the greatest thing about our country. I love the fact that I can say what I want , when I want, and to who I want with no repercussions. Which brings me to today’s blog. Investigating this guy had nothing to do with infringing on his rights in my opinion. Anyone that posts a sign about aborting, killing or getting rid of any president I believe would be looked at in some capacity by law enforcement. Secret Service? Maybe not. But let’s face it, Obama is our first black president. There are thousands that would like to get rid of him for that fact alone. So don’t you think that security is probably a little more uptight? I will not defend this as I don’t think it should be but I imagine it is. My point really is, yes, this was an over reaction to a bumper sticker. But , does it mean the First Amendment will soon be gone?? I really don’t think so.
And Josh if the Obama ninjas ever do get you(hope I’m around…never seen an Obama ninja) I will gladly take your place. We can chnage the name to “The CORRECT Side”. 😉

    Hey Rich,
First of all Obama is Bi-racial not black. 50/50. Everyone including you calls him “our first black president”. He is also (so far) our worst president. People voted for him because it was something different, like the goth look for kids at the mall. I asked one guy who was proud to tell me he voted for Obama and when I asked him what he liked about him he said because he was going to change things. What things? I inquired. He couldn’t answer. He also didn’t know anything about where he stands on ANY issue. Not one! He had registered to vote for the first time in his life and voted for a man based on the color of his skin. I regard to your story Josh, I would like to know how the police violated that guy’s rights. Abortion does mean KILL and like it or not Obama is our president. This is just another example of how people think they should have the right to incite others to further their own cause.
Hey, I know I think we should abort people that have bumper stickers that are stupid.

If more Americans were interested and better informed, there would never have been an Obama presidency. Liberlas, progressives or whatever they lake to label themselves, are directly responsible for the mess that we’re in. If a republican were behind this, believe me, Rangel, Pelosi, Shumer, Reed, etc would have been having hearings out the wazoo. Wake up people. Get informed. These people in power wish our Bill of Rights never existed. Our freedoms are what stand in the way of their global ideals. Chipping away at out first amendment is happening, and even if they can’t remove it, they can sure scare people into being silent.
Keep up the fight Josh, there is still a glimmer of hope.

    Let’s abort Tree hugger.

Ooops! Too late! I think TreeHuggers mother did try to have an abortion, but it survived.

    Too bad!

UhOh, now all the treehugging socialists will be attacking me.

    So be it.

Hey Chas, didn’t we just have a REPUBLICAN as our President?? If you are looking for someone to blame for the big mess we are in you should look in that direction.

    Here they come….

Here come the “it’s because our last President left us with such a mess” excuses. There will be more to come I’m sure.

I saw an awesome bumper sticker I’d love to get…

    O-One
    B-Big
    A-A**
    M-Mistake
    A-America

I couldn’t agree more. However, I imagine it won’t be long before Obama orders the Secret Service to come to my house and wave that baton thingy in front of my face and clear my memory of ever seeing such a bumper sticker….oh wait, maybe I’m getting the Secret Service confused with the Men in Black.

It doesn’t matter how messy things were before, they’re gonna get even messier! Obama’s approval rating is going down, down, down….as more people awaken and realize what they’ve done.

    Hey Treehugger,
Didn’t the mass media try to demean the last administration at every chance to do so. For the past two years of the Bush administration, the Dems were in power. The president cannot do anything that the Congress doesn’t agree to, unless by executive order. Or did you not know that? See, the so-called media outlets are no longer newsworthy, and haven’t been for years. And why is it that everytime Obama talks about his plans for our economy, the DOW continues to drop? I feel bad that you have drank too much of the liberal Kool-Aid that you can’t see the difference between good and evil. I did not agree with a lot of what the Republicans’s did when they were in power. They should have forced the values of conservatism down the throats of the Liberal Left, instead of pandering to their whining. Remember when the Dems were crying about being fair, when they were in the minority and wanted to change the rules for passage to require major majorities? Surely you must remember something?

So sorry if the truth tends to rub you the wrong way. Most liberals have their own ideas of what the real meaning of truth is. I agree that it is difficult to ascertain truth in today’s world, but honestly, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the bias.

Where is the media coverage of all Obama’s picks that had trouble paying their taxes? Where is all the coverage of Biden’s gaffs? I don’t have the web number. Please, the guy’s a joke. And Harry Reid, Princess Pelosi, Charlie Rangel – these are the finest in your party?
I know one thing for sure, the republican administration did more to curb this mess and the democrats did everything they could to hide it. Why isn’t the media asking for answers? Because they are in bed with the liberal cause. I hope that you all are proud of them.

Well guess what, we got change, just like half of the misinformed Americans who voted for Obama wanted. He just ran on change, but there are 2 kinds of change, as are 2 kinds of stimuli. Good and Bad. You guys can’t blame this one on W. It’s all yours. Lets just hope and pray that our country can hold out a few years until the people can get all the change they need, and wake up and vote for real change. A change, in retrospect, to the foundations that our forefathers lived and died for.

We can’t possibly take too much more of this change.

Well, here is some change for ya! According to the “Herald Standard” the Obama Stimulus plan is going to help the Mon/Fayette Expressway. Here is a quote from that article and a link to read the whole thing. “If all goes as planned, the West Virginia link of the Mon/Fayette Expressway will be operational by the end of the year thanks to a boost in funding from the federal economic stimulus package. Using the economic stimulus money will mean that the highway will be open a couple years before it would have been otherwise”
    http://www.heraldstandard.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=20272170&BRD=2280&PAG=461&dept_id=480247&rfi=6

I would call that “change” for good.

And as far as the media not covering the Tax issues of the Obama picks it was covered in the media. I saw it. Where were you? I get sick of hearing all the whining about how the media is so biased blah blah blah……… Maybe the Republican party is just DEAD….. ah but don’t blame that on Bush. Blame that on a liberal too. Lets just blame EVERYTHING on the liberals, that way you Repubs don’t have to take any responsibility for ANYTHING!

And if all the Republican Party can offer up as leaders in the party are Sarah Palin or Piyush Jindal or worse – Rush Limbaugh, I can tell you that your party can say good bye to the next election as well. Better get used to saying O-B-A-M-A !

Yea!!!!! Our roads will be open sooner, thank God! My horse is getting tired and my carriage keeps losing wheels. The expressway is just a convenience, it will not solve any of our major crises, in fact, it will cost me MORE MONEY just to make it to work a whole whopping 5 minutes earlier. Let’s not forget tolls just recently went up…costing us (those who are struggling in this hard economic time) MORE. So I’ll probably just stick with the way I currently travel to work, therefore making the expressway completion irrelevant to me! But, like I said, thank goodness it’s getting done!!! GO OBAMA!!!!

    Give me a break.

It is awful funny that the stimulus package is going to help out the Mon/Fayette expressway. You see, Rep. Barry Stout has been putting together the funding for this end of the expressway for the past 25 years. It was to be his legacy. Too bad it came too late to save the mills and all the jobs in the Mon Valley. Sure, there are plety of workers building the road now, but once it’s built, only a few, select peole will be employed. A temporary employment boom, not a sustaining factor. Obama’s stimulus package, spending bill, is founded mainly on social programs. Only a mere 12% of the bill is devoted toward actual wealth building sources. He talks a good talk, but when one actually looks at the bill in depth, it certainly is not the answer. Yes, I agree that a new highway is CHANGE, but at what expense? Is this highway now going to be free for its usage, since you point out that taxpayers money is going to speed it up?
I work for the government my friend, and I can tell you that there are far better sources of information than the heraldstandard, copy from AP wire reports, that are referred to. The work being performed at this time on the expressway was funded and planned for construction while Barry Hussein Obama was still organizing ACORN members in Chicago.
Besides, aren’t most treehuggers against highway development? Or have you sold out your cause for the advancement of the socialist agenda? If we had any businesses left in western PA, this would have been a blessing for them. But alas, after decades of raising taxes and capitulating to the environmentalists, the Democrats of PA can stake their claim of VICTORY. Let’s just HOPE and PRAY that the country doesn’t follow the path of this once great county.

    Bill,
I appreciate that you actually agreed with my point that a “violation of rights” did not occur. But of course you had to throw in the whole “he’s not balck ” argument. I guess I could have said he is our first non “snow white” president, but I digress. As for your person who voted for Obama just because he was “different”, I couldn’t agree more. If they did in fact vote for that reason alone then they shouldn’t be voting. And yes I’m sure there were many more that did the same. However, I talked to a friend also that voted for MCCain. “Why?” I asked. “Because I just couldn’t vote for OBama” was the answer. The ignorance vote went both ways Bill.

So, I guess you are thinking that this will not bring people into Uniontown and the surrounding area? What backwards negative thinking. So it costs a whole 20 cents more. Have you ever had to drive on Rt 40 to Brownsville around midnight in driving snow just to get on Rt 43? Well, I have and it is worth an extra 20 cents to me to travel on a highway rather than Rt 40. Fayette County has many possibilities. Too bad some people just can’t or won’t see it.

This article just about sums it up. Rush Limbaugh might just be the final nail in the coffin for the Repubs! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/the-dittohead-party-how-t_b_171979.html

  18. 18 Chas

    Tree,
I think it will take people through Fayette County. Faster. There won’t be any reason to get off the highway and spend some money or see the sights. You are hinting that driving to Brownsville, (another highlight of our county), only will cost you 20 cents. Who is paying the other .75? I bet you haven’t even travelled on it yet. There aren’t any bike path lanes, so you have to be charged a minimum of 95 cents, one way. And guess what else, that fee won’t get you to 43 in California. Expect to pay a lot more. It is a beautiful road, now if we could mandate all the truckers to use it would make our old US Route 40 and 857 much safer. Wouldn’t that be nice? If only the legislature would pass a law that forces business to have to pay the tolls and use the road. Guess what? That is socialist thinking, and nationalizing that would be no different than living in Cuba or Venezuela.

Our infrastructure is so broken, yet instead of maintaining what we already have, we are building more. Did you take a look at our PA structurally deficient bridge list lately? Our district has the worst bridges in the whole state. Maybe they could install a park and ride near 51/119 interchange and let our FACT buses take travelers for a ride. At least there would be someone riding on them. What another drain on our tax system. But that will be highlighted at another time I am sure.

By the way, here is the web address for calculating how much extra it will cost to ride to Brownsville from Uniontown.
    http://www.paturnpike.com/toll/tollmileage.aspx

  19. 19 treehugger
    March 10, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Chas, It is much cheaper to live in Fayette County than Morgantown. People want to live here and work there. The road will help with that. What you are saying about just building more and not maintaining is not true. The stimulus package has money for road and bridge repair. A park and ride sounds great – good idea. It works in N. Va and it could work here. And FYI – I have driven on the new road to B’ville as well as the toll road to WVa. We have an easy pass……

I sense from your post that you don’t like Brownsville – I quote “another highlight of our country” Maybe there are problems there but are you doing anything to help fix it or are you like alot of folks who just like to sit back and complain about all the things that are wrong and bad in their community and do nothing? You can either choose to be part of the solution, part of the problem or just sit on the fence and do nothing.
