Here…we…go

I will be taking a short vacation to do some relaxing and take a break from my hectic work schedule.

Homer Simpson resembles me I think...

I need to get a few things done around the house over the next five days and just do some much-needed power napping, but I wanted to leave you all with something to ponder.

Here is the link to an article in the Washington Post. I hope you find it interesting reading.

I guess it is time for the attempted power grab that we all knew was coming. Now, the question is, do we have the intestinal fortitude to stop it? I certainly hope so.

And to those who have been trumpeting hopelessness in the responses to my last post, I assure you that I do not substitute hope for action. However action without hope and void of faith in the desired outcome is often futile. I never stop believing. I HOPE you don’t either.

I look forward to your comments. Talk to you again soon.

Reasons for…hope?

While I’m sure that you deal with your fair share of pessimists and prophets of doom daily, as I do, I think there are reasons to be hopeful about our nation’s future. Despite the foreboding speak of our president, Mr. Hopeful himself, and the undercurrent of fear and anger that had gripped and briefly stifled many American conservatives, I think a shift is already underway.

Here is my laundry list of reasons why everything is going to be alright. We are going to take back the term hope from the far left and possibly the country too…you will see.

1. The Obama administration said this week that releasing prisoners into the U.S. population from the soon-to-be defunct Guantanamo Bay Detention Center is a possibility. I can only hope that team-O goes ahead and makes that choice. Now there’s a change that will help bringing about the shift in the nation’s ideals that we need. Even most progressives I know don’t want terrorists in line behind them at the grocery store muttering about jihad and the price of Mallomar cookies while counting their food stamps…I’m just sayin’. Bonuses, global warming, embryos and Russia, Oh My!

Random thoughts on a Wednesday morning.

*It is funny to watch the mostly contrived outrage of American lawmakers as more than 70 million-dollar AIG bonuses are uncovered and exposed. Now the Democrats on Capital Hill are furious and ready to tax the AIG officials 100 percent to recoup the bonuses paid with bailout money. However, it is the lawmakers who truly look foolish after doling out money to prop up private industry.

The federal government should not be in the business of bailing anyone out. There are already proper channels in place for companies going under. But, alas, AIG was a big Obama supporter and dished the then Illinois senator more than $100,000 in a bonus in 2008 – so, you do the math… Continue reading ‘Bonuses, global warming, embryos and Russia, Oh My!’

An Obamanation

Yet another obamanation.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown came to the White House to visit with our new president earlier this month and Obama really went out of his way to extend that olive branch that liberals were crying for after eight years of what they claimed was the destruction of America’s global image.

Yes, President Obama did everything he could to show the world and our closest ally, England, that we have nothing but love and respect for them.

First, the new administration armed with the new tone of hope for the future dismissed the honored tradition of flying the flag of a visiting foreign leader.

Then, team Obama decided to forgo another time-honored tradition and did not set up a joint news conference between the leaders of the free world during their first visit with one another.

But wait, it gets worse. Continue reading ‘An Obamanation’

And the hits just keep on coming…

*Have you noticed that the Obama administration can’t let boisterous criticism go by without commenting? From Rush Limbaugh to Sean Hannity, Obama can’t stop arguing the points made by his political foes. I don’t ever remember a president so caught up in political posturing.

*Speaking of posturing, did you hear that Obama has said that he does not support the resurrection of the fairness doctrine?

However, the actions of his administration and of the Democrat power brokers makes it clear that the elimination of opposing view points is something they intend to tackle in some fashion. Watch for the government to step in to break up talk radio monopolies under the guise of economic relief.

*Can you believe that a colleague of mine said he supports the fairness doctrine because it helped to shield the nation from polarization? That’s right. A journalist who would rather have the government control the airwaves than allow the people to listen to what they want because, as he put it, then that is all they will want to hear. I don’t know about you folks, but I am a proud protector of the right to free speech, period.

*Do you think the views of my colleague are connected to the slow erosion of our Constitution? I do.

*Why is it that conservatives are so much more optimistic than liberals? Even when we are ousted from power by an egomaniacal progressive, we still are clamoring for the light. What must it be like to be so invested in failure to achieve personal success? Continue reading ‘And the hits just keep on coming…’
